Mark Green's Atheopaganism Blog

Living an Earth-Honoring Path Rooted in Science

The Liebster Award

The Liebster Award is handed around the Internet to bring attention to smaller blogs that the nominator thinks are worthy of attention and reading. So thank you to Laurel at The Walking Druid for nominating me for it! I hope it leads to more folks discovering this site, and to my discovering many other wonderful ones.

Here are the rules for the Liebster Award:

1.Thank the person who nominated and link back to their blog: DONE!
2.Display the Liebster Award on your blog.
3.Share 11 random facts about yourself.
4.Answer the 11 questions you were asked.
5.Nominate 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers for the award, by asking them 11 new questions (or having them 6.Answer the questions you were asked).
7.Make sure to let the bloggers know you’ve nominated them!
8.And don’t forget to copy the rules into your post!

Soooo…here goes!

11 random facts about myself:

  1.  I am an enthusiastic wearer of costumes and participant in/producer of living history and themed events.
  2. I am a published poet.
  3. I nearly drowned while rafting the Grand Canyon. Despite that, it’s my favorite place in the world.
  4. I lived in Barcelona for more than a year.
  5. I collect historically significant little relics: political buttons back to T. Roosevelt, a snip of wire from the Hindenburg, a set of coffee cups from the Concorde, a musket ball and British coat button from the Revolutionary war, etc. I like to live in a museum.
  6. I’m quite fond of African art, especially masks.
  7. i suffer from episodes of depression, and I’m medicated for that.
  8. I spent a decade heading a political environmental organization, doing lobbying and grassroots organizing.
  9. I’m a neat freak.
  10. I have jumped out of a perfectly serviceable airplane.
  11. I spent many years performing in madrigal/early music choirs, a cappella.

Here are the 11 questions from The Walking Druid I was given to answer:

1. What got you started with your blog?

I started out moderating the Atheopaganism Facebook group, but realized that my long posts there were disappearing into the ether instead of being collected where I and others could access them. So I founded Atheopaganism as both a blog and a repository for Atheopagan resources (like a ritual primer, a “hymnal”, etc.)

2. Post a link to your favorite blog post you have written and explain why it is your favorite.

I’m going to cheat and post two: “Reality, Language and the Inner World“, and “Okay, So You’re an Atheist. Now What?

Both of these, I feel, are thoughtful explorations of their topics and really help to lay out the why of Atheopaganism.

3. What is your favorite color?

Green.

4. Where do you get inspiration to blog?

From the natural world around me, the ideas that well up from within me, and my drive to make non-theistic Paganism a living, viable path of which others may avail themselves should they so choose.

5. Where would you like to travel that you haven’t travelled to yet?

Iceland, Greenland, Norway, the South Pacific

6. What was your favorite book or movie as a child?

I didn’t really have one. I was a voracious reader and went through about a book a day by the time I was in middle school.

7. What is your favorite season and why?

Autumn. It’s so melancholy and beautiful.

8. Any goals for your blog?

I’d like more conversation in the comments threads. I post each new post to the Facebook group, which has about 500 members, and so the discussions about them tend to take place there, rather than on the blog.

9. Do you have a bucket list? What is number 1?

I really want to see the aurora borealis.

10. Favorite thing to blog about?

Earth-revering, ritual-practicing Paganism without gods!

11. What’s your dream job?

Curator for a natural history or historical museum.

And now for my 11 nominees (caveat:  I’ll add more to this list as I discover them):

The challenge here is that most of the blogs I read have tons of subscribers. Here are a few I can think of right now:

Naturalistic Paganism

Cards and Feather

Kind-ism

Please answer the same questions I did!

Again, thanks so much, Laurel!
